Target: 1,5cm medial to the anterior superior iliac spine (a). Correct needle position (b).
Indication: Compression of nerve under the lateral end of inguinal ligament at the level of the anterior superior iliac spine. Patient complains of burning dysesthesia or hypersensitivity of the lateral aspect of the thigh (meralgia paresthetica)

Target: Site of compression : 1.5 cm medial to the anterior superior iliac spine behind insertion of inguinal ligament

Procedure:

  • - Patient in supine position
  • - Axial scan centred on the anterior superior iliac spine
  • - Anterolateral approach
  • - CT fluoroscopy-guided direct puncture from skin to posterior aspect of inguinal ligament with a 22 gauge needle
  • - Infiltration of 5 mL of lignocaine (Block infiltration) and steroid for long acting pain sedation

Danger: Easy procedure, without any particular risk
